What’s with the name?

Great question! Hello, my name is Julielee, and I came up with the name for this site several years ago while attending a Presbyterian Church. At the time, I was invited to submit a video contribution for a church celebration. In that video, I talked about how my faith is a bit like a bowl of oatmeal, something I eat most days. Like a hearty porridge, my faith nourishes me, energizes my work and life, and adapts through the seasons. Not long after, I became an elder in the Church and in 2022, I became a Candidate for Ministry in the Presbyterian Church of Canada. So now you know the story behind the name, but what about the author?

I am a student at Presbyterian College in Montreal, Que., one of three Presbyterian colleges in Canada. I'm currently in my third and final year of studies and serve as a student minister at two rural congregations in Kingston, Ont.

Before pursuing ministry, I worked as a journalist and communications specialist. I've also enjoyed brief stints as a teacher and in the office of a Member of Parliament.

My writing and my life are guided by a core belief: God is love and ever-present. Everyone is invited to participate in this love and experience its transformative power.

If you’ve found your way to Oatmeal Ministry, perhaps you’re seeking something more, something different. No matter how you arrive, please know that this is just one space among many. I encourage you, now and always, to find a church community where you feel welcome and can grow in love.

With love and spirit,
Js.
